Holla buddies. This is going to be the last part of my life lessons series. I hope you liked the lessons I shared with you all. So without any further delay let’s start the last chapter of the series. So the last chapter is ‘Happiness isn’t for Sale’.
‘True happiness is not acquired and you won’t find it on sale’
Have you ever heard someone say, “If I only had _____ I would be happy?“ Have you ever said it yourself? I know I sure have. Like me, many people have made the mistake of thinking money is going to buy them happiness when really it’s just our way of trying to satisfy the unsatisfiable. It sort of reminds me of a cheesy love story from the 80’s called Can’t Buy Me Love. I consider love to be happiness, and I know for a fact you can’t buy that. If you had to buy it, it sure wouldn’t be love that’s for sure.
Fun, however, can be bought – just like a politician!
Regardless of what you may think, fun and happiness are quite different. People should have fun, and even buy it when they can, but when you confuse it with happiness, you may be missing the bigger picture. Fun is nice. Go on a 10-day trip to Europe, take a cruise, visit an amusement park, go see a movie, but don’t think for one second that it’s where happiness resides. Happiness comes from a completely different place, and it cannot be bought. Happiness is family, love, contentment.
If you go around trying to buy happiness you will find that there will always be “one more thing” to buy in order to achieve it.
- If I only had a ‘better house’ I’d be happy.
- If I only had a ‘newer car’ I’d be happy.
- If I only had the ‘newer mobile‘ I’d be happy.
- If I only had the ’60′ Plasma’ I’d be happy.
So as you can see, chasing happiness with money will only result in a cycle that will continue on to the *next best thing*. There will always be something else you can buy to “fill that void”, but what if you were happy with what you had?
We can’t buy happiness, yet we search the aisles, shelves, and pages of eBay in search of something more, of something to fill the void. The stuff won’t make us happy, though—not in the long run, anyway. At best, material things will temporarily pacify us. At worst, they will ruin our lives: they will leave us empty, they will leave us depressed, and they will leave us even more alone—alone among a sea of trinkets. The truth is we are all going to die, and heaping our tombs with treasure will not save us from this fate.
Can you recall a specific time when you caught yourself chasing happiness with money? What was it, and what made you come to your senses? I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
Satisfaction, that’s what I feel true happiness. To get satisfied I don’t need money my thought is enough.

Well said man! Everyone can relate with this..Money is necessary to sustain life but it can’t make you feel the joy of happiness. It reminds me of italian footballer Francesco totti who bided adieu to his club Roma. Many clubs threw lots of money to get him but he never left his club Roma.”Roma is my family.Have you heard of a poor child leaving his poor parents to live with rich”. He proved that money can’t buy us happiness.Thank$ for such a lovely post!

You can never have Satisfaction with materialistic things…that is true… The emptiness will always be there…But I do feel Money can buy happiness to some extent… Like just for instance.. buying gifts for homeless Children or your loved ones… And for me, happiness is something that resides in you and you can have fun if you’re happy..

Well written post Mehul. The richest man may not be the happiest man! So though money is important it cannot buy us happiness. Satisfaction and contentment is the path that leads to happiness!

I really liked the way you expressed the meaning of happiness.
It is really true that one cannot buy happiness for self through money but happiness can be bought by helping others by using money as a source.
A smile on face of a person in need is a way that leads to happiness!

Chasing happiness with money? For me that’s shopping💞Very well written buddy! Satisfaction is earned when you work for the things and so is happiness. Happiness is momentary. It is not everlasting but there’s no end to it you can earn it back. Wonderful post &beautiful reminder🌹

Money Can’t Buy Me Love was one of my all-time favorite 80s movies back then…. Yes I have been guilty of trying to buy happiness. I don’t want to get into details but at the end I was heartbroken. Happiness comes from within side us and to be grateful for the things that are naturally around us.

Nice post! Couldn’t agree more! To me, I think it’s important to find the balance. Money surely can bring pleasure. Buys a tool for me to make something or achieve some goals. I would say money can buy me happiness. However if spending money just to possess things, we will never get the happiness.

But but but.. whenever I enter a book shop and see all those books that I could buy if I had more money..
All those books that could make me happy!!!
I’d totally disagree with this post! 😭

That books will give you fun but not the inner satisfaction and happiness you want. Everyone have different meaning of happiness. For me happiness is achieved if you are happy from inside and I achieve that by helping underprivileged society..

“Fun, however, can be bought – just like a politician!”
Hilarious. What a beautiful quote.
This was a very crucial topic you’ve written about. Thank you for bringing it into the light. It is so hard not to give in to consumer culture when the basis of capitalism relies on it for its survival, but we can all make small choices to counter it. We can ask ourselves, before purchasing something, “Will this add value to my life?”

Very true money can’t buy happiness ..and I think apart from some useless stuff money actually can’t buy you loyalty, trust, satisfaction, happiness etc. All this is an inside job..where we need to continuously work for it. Money cannot buy happiness but sometimes a no money situation definitely give you sadness ..ahh that irony !!

I agree with you. Money can’t buy happiness but sometimes no money gives you sadness. That’s what life is. Nobody is happy with what they have but are jealous seeing other.

Sadness is not what other have and you don’t. .sadness is when other made you realize that..sadness n jealousy is two different traits…just like I can be jealous of you because of your writing skill but this wl never make me sad.

I agree. Once we reach enough income to cover our basic welfare needs; housing, food, security etc then the amount of money we earn over that makes very little difference. Also, how we spend the money we have matters; it’s been proven that spending money on experiences rather than material objects makes a difference along with spending money on others rather than ourselves, including donating to charity. Love and light x

That’s so true. Making memories by doing things you really like is awesome.. Materialistic things don’t give inner peace but just provide us with joy. We should help the needy who are not able to fulfill their basic needs.. That will give us the real happiness

You are so right. And even though I know it, I find myself still chasing money. Not all the time, but mostly when I get trapped into comparing my “stuff” to other people’s stuff. That feeling that money defines success is so hard to overcome.

That happens with everyone. Everybody is running behind money. They have forgot the real purpose of their lives.
